Set in Chicago's South Side during the 1950s, the plot revolves around
dreams of and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family.
This powerful drama is built on sacrifice, heartbreak, trust, love and
mama's heroic struggle to hold the family together. There are multiple
themes: Black identity, pride and power, quest for liberation, the Black
Family's strength and closeness, Black America's links with Black Africa...
all culminating in the family's climatic refusal to sacrifice human
dignity to the demands of an unjust society.
