- The 2012 New Play Reading Series -

Country Playhouse's 20th season of New Plays by Houstonians

ATTENTION PLAYWRIGHTS:
We are now accepting entries from writers who live in the Houston area for Country Playhouse's 20th annual New Play Reading Series. If you live in Houston and have a play you would like to have considered for presentation in the 2012 Series, please submit it by December 1, 2011.

Restrictions: The playwright must be a resident of Houston. Plays that occupy a full evening's entertainment are preferred. These can be full-length plays, companion one-acts, or a series of short plays. Plays for children or young audiences are also considered.

If your script has any performance, production or publication history, please enclose a written account of that history with your script. The purpose of this series is essentially to give new work by Houston writers a first public hearing, but substantially re-worked or expanded scripts will be considered.

If you are a Houston-based playwright can mail the playscript directly to the NPRS Coordinator:

  • Diana Howie
  • c/o Country Playhouse
  • P.O.Box 79206
  • Houston TX 77279-9206

A Word document should be submitted at the same time to dmhowie@swbell.net. Please note, this play reading series showcases ONLY writers who live in Houston. Please do not submit a play if you do not currently live in Houston. If you have questions, you may contact Diana at same e-address. (Please put "NPRS query" in the subject line.)

Country Playhouse's New Play Reading Series is comprised of six Sunday nights of concert readings of new plays written by Houston-area residents. The readings are rehearsed, and the public is invited. Since 1993, more than 100 new works have been presented in the Series. Of these plays, we know that almost half have gone forward with a production, publication, or recognition in a national competition.

Sunday nights at 7 pm
March 4 - April 8, 2012
